Would You Join the Army? Some Just Did

I was in Wakiso district headquarters to cover the recruitment of cadets and officers this morning and was surprised at the numbers that turned up.

While President Museveni has been an ardent supporter of professionalizing the army, the forces behavior over the past few years has been wanting.

Personally, I thought the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF) was going to struggle in terms of attracting numbers owing to the forces’ recent behavior.

It was not the case. Actually, I found a lady who had not passed the first phase of the tests crying after being booted out. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the time to shoot some frames of her since we (journalists) were under strict army orders.

We were given 10 minutes to get all the pictures we wanted later on. Did we have a choice? Actually time was our biggest enemy. So we literally started racing up and down trying squeeze our images within the 600 seconds.

    • Natty, just how sure are you that a senior UPDF officer in you won’t be paid well? Besides, you would have powers to grab houses and land without anyone questioning your actions!

  1. That’s perfect. I only wish there was fair selection without favoritism in the whole process. How can I be disqualified because of a tiny scar on my knee?

  2. MR ECHWALU i have two questions to ask, 1.i would like to request you to join me on face book using “kasumba hassan muhammmad” and lastiy what requires to join the army
