PAM Awards and Red Carpet
I took a break from the campaigns to cover the Pearl of Africa Music (PAM) awards 2010.
After failing to stage the annual awards last year after some heavenly promise from the proprietor Mr. Isaac Mulindwa, many waited with doubt for this year’s event. Well, it happened but….
Let’s skip the event and focus on the red carpet.
Do Ugandans really understand what a “red carpet” means? What value it carries? And why they would rather skip the function than embarrassing themselves?
I was mortified. Here is a scenario where someone walks in with a high end red carpet attire and on approaching photographers, they literally run away, cover their faces or hide behind whoever cares to carry their fright.
I got so many of these incidences during the PAM awards last week. One photographer never stopped complaining, insisting these people should have instead entered the venue through “General happiness” (low end) or rear entry.
Compared to the ordinary attendant who never the less could afford the VIP ticket, they faired fairly on the red carpet.
Grace Nakimera nailed it. She smiled, changed her posture slowly but with absolutely accuracy. She was the only one who had the guts to ask us “are you good now” to which we said, yes as more flashes followed her right to her seat.
HB toxic, NTV’s Maurice Mugisha and his wife, Zuena’s sister Mimi, Cindy and her boyfriend Mario, GNL and girlfriend, Rachael K with a guy we are yet to get his identity and the Klear Kut crew knew what a red carpet is all about.
Miss Uganda 2010; red carpet disappointment
Miss Uganda, Heyzme Nansubuga to me was a disaster among the celebrities, if indeed she qualifies to be one.
She walked in so naively and managed to slip through the red carpet without anyone just me noticing after a tip-off whisper from her friend that “she’s Miss Uganda” as she bypassed a crowded red carpet.
Other photographers only noticed when i scampered to get a picture of a certain lady in a short white dress with a little crown. We joked amongst ourselves about her after-wards. A monitor photographed asked me forcefully (he wanted to show his rage on Heyzme).
“Have you ever failed to notice Salma Nassanga (Miss Uganda 2003/04) when she arrives for any function?” I giggled in approval. Sadly, Salma for some reason didn’t show up (i personally didn’t see her
In short, that was the red carpet for you
